Rest was essential for growth, that was something Sunkit knew. He had been told many times over by his mother, who often scolded him for preferring to stay up late, practicing battle moves rather than sleep. On this particular night, he really wasn't interested in going to sleep. The golden tom sat in his nest next to Willowkit, his head resting on his soft little paws. Sighing, he closed his eyes for a moment, trying to imagine what his upcoming apprentice ceremony would be like. It was sunny and nice, and the clan cheered for him as he approached his mentor, though the cat in front of him was blurry and unrecognizable. The warm sun heated his back and he relished in the unseasonably warm feeling, though it soon became uncomfortable as the sun's warmth became more of a searing heat and the air became heavy, barely breathable.
Sunkit's amber eyes popped open, though quickly fell to slits against the bright lights in front of him. The nursery was on fire. The queens were gathering up all of the kits, and Rockytail hooked her paw around the young tom, pulling him to the back wall of the den, as far away from the flames as they could get. Sunkit huddled against his mother's pelt, trying his best to think of an escape plan. The only way out he could think of was the entrance to the den, but it was filled with flames and not really a smart idea to barge through, or at least he thought until a large tabby warrior leaped into the den, coughing slightly, but not allowing the fire to take his energy down.
Rockytail, after a brief exchange with the warrior, picked up two of Sunkit's siblings, Gracekit and Ghostkit, and raced outside of the nursery, disappearing through the flames. As her mother left her side, Willowkit let out a mewl for her mother's return, and then began to cough as smoke filled her lungs. Webstrike calmed the kittens, though Sunkit was still rather stoic about the whole situation, most likely because of the shock he was in, though it wasn't obvious to the warrior. His mind had simply shut down.
As Webstrike grabbed hold of Sunkit and his sister, he braced himself for the intense heat of the flames, cringing as they leaped through them and then relaxing his body as the older tom raced out of the camp. He coughed as the ran, trying to expel the smoke and soot from his body, though it wasn't nearly as bad as Willowkit, who was hacking as though her throat was on fire. The three cats reached a safe area a little ways off from the camp where many members of the clan had run to. Falling back to the ground, Sunkit coughed a bit more, but managed to stand up and look around, examining the area. His sister lay beside him, huddled in a ball, coughing desperately. She had breathed in a lot of the smoke, that much was obvious. Concerned for his sibling's health, Sunkit moved closer to her. "Willowkit," he spoke, his voice rough and raspy from his still unclean lungs. "Willowkit, you've got to breathe." He placed his little paw on her back, rubbing it softly as he had seen Autumnwhisper do from time to time when cats were having trouble breathing. Her breathing slowed a bit, though her coughs were still violent, and Sunkit realized that she probably wasn't going to make it. As the young she-kit fell still on the ground, Sunkit backed away. He wasn't going to let this affect him, he couldn't. His dreams would not be changed simply because of the death of his sister. He would still get to where he was going, and Willowkit's death wouldn't change anything. She was just another cat along the way, someone who had kept him company for a time. But he had to move on to the next stage of his life now, without her. As Sunkit told himself this, he began to sniffle, and let out a small gasp for air, but quickly shoved it down. He wouldn't let her death change him. The tom straightened himself up and looked around at chaotic scene. His next stage would be hard, and this time, he'd have to go in it without his only friend.

I know that he's Sunpaw now, but since this was assigned when he was a kit, and his siblings all did it as kits, I figured I'd still set him that age. And, in case you couldn't tell, towards the end, he really is shook up by Willowkit's death, he's just trying to make it seem like it's not affecting him at all, which, in his mind, is strength and something he longs for. But yeah, he'll probably be a hell of a lot more serious now and less likely to make friends. Yay!
